KENT - A teenager from Kent beat out several thousand other teens from the across the nation to win a spot on "Jeopardy." But Kristiana Henderson of Kentwood High school didn't know it until the morning when we surprised her with the announcement.

The Jeopardy "ambush team" was made up of the school's principal, Kristiana's parents and KOMO-TV.

Principal Doug Hofstetter snuck into the orchestra rehearsal and announced, "Someone in this orchestra tried out for the game show Jeopardy."

A cheer goes up and all eyes go to Kristiana. She was among 5,000 students nationwide trying for a spot on Jeopardy Teen Tournament. Tuesday, we delivered the news she's one of only 32 teens to be selected.

"So congratulations to Kristiana for this special honor," the principal said.

The 17-year-old junior is a straight-A student.

"I'm really stunned," Kristiana said. "I wasn't expecting this. This is so cool."

So what caught the producers' eyes? "I think just having a really fun time out there and just do your best and make it magical," Kirstiana said.

Hey, how about that Jeopardy theme song on the violin? She tries the violin and the rest of the orchestra chimes in by humming the melody.

We presented Kristiana with a Jeopardy T-shirt and hat: "Pencils down, smiles up and congratulations from KOMO-TV and Jeopardy."

Her parents, Jamie and Ruthanne, say being on Jeopardy has been a goal of Kristiana's.

Kristiana will fly to Hollywood next spring to take part in Jeopardy Teen Tournament.
