Robert Santos

After two scorching hot summers in the Desert Southwest, Robert wanted to cool things down. So, in February 2008, he moved to the Northwest to join the KOMO Forecast Team. Two months into the job, Robert was already forecasting some of the most unusual weather the region has ever seen – lowland hail and snow – in April. As a weathercaster, Robert knew he made the right move.

Robert’s fascination for weather began as a child growing up on Guam. Typhoons intrigued him rather than scare him. But, Robert’s interest wouldn’t lead him to a career as a weathercaster at first. Instead, during his middle school years, he wanted to be a TV news reporter. His interest was sparked while watching news programs from Los Angeles and the Phil Donahue Show, which aired on Guam’s cable station. From then, Robert sought out opportunities to be in front of the camera, first as a host for Kids Eye on Guam, then later in high school, as host of the Academic Challenge Bowl which aired on the local PBS. Upon graduating at age 17, Robert’s career in Journalism began. He started as a producer for Guam Cable News and soon after was reporting and anchoring for both TV and radio.

After three years, Robert pursued his dream of breaking into the biz on the mainland. First, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree at Pepperdine University. There, he continued to sharpen his skills anchoring and reporting for Malibu’s TV-3. After graduating, he returned to the business full-time working throughout California, from Ventura (KADY), to Monterey (KCBA & KION), then San Diego (KFMB, KSWB) and Los Angeles (KTLA). Throughout the years, he reported LIVE on countless big stories including several Southern California wildfires, President Bush’s historical “Mission Accomplished” speech on board the USS Abraham Lincoln, the disappearance of little Danielle Van Dam and the Santana High School shooting, both in San Diego. From the serious to the light-hearted, Robert has covered quite a range of stories. The Associated Press Television Radio Association recognized his skills by naming him Reporter of the Year among his colleagues in California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, Washington, New Mexico and Idaho.

After reporting for many years, Robert wanted a new challenge. Soon after completing his contract with KFMB in San Diego, KSWB, down the street, offered him his first job as a weathercaster. He was hooked! Since then, he’s also forecasted in Las Vegas (KVBC). And now he’s here in the Northwest enjoying the great green outdoors and the city life. Since moving to Seattle, Robert chose to give up his car and now walks and takes the bus just about everywhere. As a reporter for KOMO’s 4-the-Earth segment, Robert does what he can to reduce his carbon footprint.

In addition to his 4-the-Earth reports during the week, you can see Robert's forecasts on the weekend 5, 6 and 11pm shows or during the week when he fills in for Jim Castillo or Steve Pool.
