Melody Mendez

Melody joined KOMO 4 News in June of 2008. Her love of story-telling and constant learning made journalism the perfect career for Melody. She cherishes every opportunity to meet new people and tell their stories.

After spending two years in Tennessee and two years in the Midwest, this native New Englander knew she wanted to move back to the coast. Seattle was the perfect fit. Melody has loved living in new places around the world and can’t wait to explore the Emerald City.

Melody is a graduate of Boston University’s College of Communications, where she received the "Dennis Kauff Award" for excellence in journalism. After graduation Melody headed south to WBBJ in Jackson, Tennessee. Her work as an Anchor/Reporter there helped launch the station to its spot as the highest rated ABC affiliate in the nation. During Hurricane Katrina she led a major effort to get water to victims on the gulf coast. With her help six tractor trailers full of water were sent to those in need.

After two years in Tennessee, Melody headed to Champaign, Illinois where she worked as the Weekend Anchor and weekday Reporter for WICD TV. While there, she worked closely with the American Cancer Society and helped organize the Champaign County Relay for Life.

The daughter of an Air Force pilot, Melody has traveled the globe. She is excited to be part of the Seattle community and can’t wait to take advantage of all the Pacific Northwest has to offer! An avid Red Sox fan and season ticket holder, she looks forward to catching a game at Safeco Field and cheering for the Mariners (when they're not playing the Sox, of course). In her free time Melody likes to explore Seattle’s neighborhoods, spend time on the water and visit family in Peru.

Melody is a member of the national association of Hispanic Journalists.
