Rich Lyons

By Scott Sistek

Rich Lyons started his career in radio in deep East Texas in the late 1970s. He brings his southern wit, charm, and unfortunately... southern sound to KOMO 1000 from Marshall, TX.

He was born, raised and educated in the tiny East Texas community prior to moving to Seattle. He shares his hometown with journalist Bill Moyers, former First Lady Ladybird Johnson and prize-fighter George Foreman.

The news business has taken Rich to foreign lands twice, once covering the fall of the Berlin Wall, and once stringing for AP from El Salvadore during the civil war there.

Rich specializes in "tornado chasing" and has been struck by lightning twice while covering violent storms. He was involved in covering the fatal tornadoes of DeKalb, TX in 1999. Most recently, he provided coverage for radio stations in Texas and Louisiana during hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Rich is the father of a 15-year-old daughter who still lives in Texas. He is a computer geek, an audiophile, loves the outdoors.
