BELLEVUE, Wash. - Police are asking for the public's help in locating a woman suspected of slashing a loss prevention officer with a knife at the Bellevue Fred Meyer store.

The woman, Yadira Dayana Chavez Cruz, attempted to steal shoes from the store on Thursday, said Carla Iafrate of the Bellevue police.

When Cruz was contacted by the store's loss prevention officer, she pulled a knife out from her purse and slashed the officer, cutting his arm, Iafrate said. Cruz fled in a four-door black Toyota pickup truck.

"The loss prevention officer actually approached her when she was trying to leave the store with unpaid merchandise," Iafrate said. "At that point, that's when she slashed the loss prevention officer in the arm and then fled the store."

Chavez Cruz, 24, is described as 5-feet-4-inches tall, 125 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair with blond highlights. She has a large sleeve tattoo on her upper right arm. She should be considered armed and dangerous, Iafrate said.

She has lived at various addresses in the Tacoma area. She may be driving a 2009 black Toyota crew cab truck with a possible Washington state license plate B70659Y.

She also may be driving a 2006 black Ford Mustang with a possible Washington state license plate ALZ9325.

Chavez Cruz is wanted for investigation of first-degree robbery and first-degree assault. She has possible warrants out of Pierce County and is a suspect in other Fred Meyer thefts.

"I definitely would consider her armed and dangerous," Iafrate said

Anyone with information about Chavez Cruz is asked to contact Detective Robertson at jrobertson@bellevuewa.gov or Detective Hoover at shoover@bellevuewa.gov.
