Did you miss the Highline Classic Jazz Festival this weekend in Des Moines? Here are pictures and a follow-up note from event organizers:
The 4th Annual Highline Classic Jazz Festival was the best one yet...by far. Moving to Landmark Event Center represented a bit of a risk, but proved to be the right decision. That move allowed us to add many new features that changed the event into a dynamic party. The staff at Landmark could not have been more supportive and helpful. Our heartfelt thanks go out to them.
First-time visitors to Landmark were awestruck by the grandeur of the building and the various spaces within allowed for lots of interaction among attendees, volunteers and performers. The Auditorium upstairs provided a wonderful and comfortable space with great acoustics for listening to the jazz singers and big bands, and the dining tables and dance floor in the Banquet Hall gave that space a club feeling perfect for the great dance bands playing there.
With eleven bands on two stages, dancing and a complete meal and bar service we had a lot of new jobs to tackle but our crew of volunteers and contracted partners proved up to the task, with the exception of a slight miscalculation on the dinner supplies. Our wonderful caterer, EJ's Custom Catering, assures us that won't happen again!
We have a lot of work ahead of us, planning the 2013 Festival (mark March 9, 2013 on your calendars). Your comments, suggestions, likes, dislikes and reviews are very welcome and will help us make 2013 even better.
