Man stabbed in back during altercation in Pioneer Square

SEATTLE - Police are looking for a man who stabbed another man in the back Thursday night near Occidental Park in Seattle's Pioneer Square.

Officers responded to the scene, in the 100 block of Occidental Avenue South, at about 8:40 p.m. after receiving a report of a stabbing. They found the victim with a stab wound to the back, said Detective Jeff Kappel of the Seattle police.

A preliminary investigation found that two men in their 30s got into an altercation on the street. The suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the back, then fled east on Yesler Way, Kappel said. The suspect was gone when officers arrived at the scene

Poliuce believe the suspect and victim were not strangers to each other. The circumstances leading up to the stabbing remain unknown and under active investigation.

Officers conducted an area search for the suspect. He remains at large.

Medics responded to the scene and transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 30s with a stocky build and last seen wearing a dark wool cap, black jacket and green or blue pants.

Anyone with information or who may know the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call 911 or Seattle police.
