Employee assaulted in Edmonds cafe robbery

EDMONDS, Wash. -- A masked man assaulted a female employee while robbing an Edmonds cafe Friday morning, according to the Edmonds Police Department.

According to police, the 34-year-old victim was opening the Corner Coffee Bar & Cafe near 76th Avenue West and Olympic View Drive around 6 a.m. when a man wearing a ski mask entered.

The man hit the victim in the face several times, dragged her to the rear of the cafe, and demanded money, according to police.

According to police, the man escaped with an unknown amount of cash from the cafe.  A police-dog search ended in the cafe's parking lot.

The victim was taken to the hospital with bruises, broken fingernails and a swollen jaw.
