Everett home destroyed, 8 injured in overnight fire
Firefighters battle flames at a house fire in Everett, Dec. 7, 2013.
EVERETT, Wash. - Investigators still don't know what sparked a fire that injured eight people and destroyed an Everett home on Rainier Ave Saturday.

Fire crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames around 12:13 a.m., and say everyone managed to escape the fire before their arrival.

Residents say they heard an explosion and smelled smoke. Sleeping family members escaped through a second-floor window, while another family member broke out the basement window to rescue another trapped person.

Two people were transported to the hospital for treatment of serious and minor burns, while five others drove themselves to a different hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Fire officials say an infant was among those treated for smoke inhalation, and one firefighter was transported to the hospital with an ankle injury.

It took fire crews about four hours to extinguish all the flames, and monitored the house for hot spots throughout the morning.
