EVERETT, Wash. -- Nobody was injured Tuesday evening when police say a man opened fire at the Everett Mall.

Aaron Snell with the Everett Police Department said Macy's employees called police at about 5:45 p.m. to report a shoplifter. Moments later, several shoppers called 911 to say they heard a gunshot in the store.

The store's loss prevention team was able to detain the accused shoplifter until Everett police arrived and arrested him. As officers began investigating the shooting, they found a single bullet hole in a glass door at the west entrance of Macy's, according to Snell.

Police believe the man fired one shot inside the store, and nobody was injured.

The store was immediately put on lockdown, and customers were transported to a secure area outside, Snell said.

The accused shooter was slightly injured when he was detained by the store's loss prevention workers, but he didn't need any medical attention.

Sue Martinez was shopping in Macy's when the melee began. She said she saw employees confront a man about shoplifting.

"And the next thing I knew is that I heard someone say, 'I've got a gun on you,' and then the shot went off," she said.

Snell said he doesn't expect any more arrests in the case.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting.
