A missing piece of equipment at the city water tank could have put city drinking water at risk.
During a routine inspection on August 10 of the 152-foot high, 2.5 million gallon tank, an electrical junction box cover was discovered to be missing.
Further inspection revealed that a 3/4" hole on the top of the water tank had been exposed. Immediate steps were taken to ensure the safety and quality of the water supply.
The Police Department was dispatched to secure the site and the Department of Health was contacted to determine the appropriate testing procedures.
The official sample results showed no contamination.
