Drivers crossing Lake Washington this weekend should plan ahead for multiple drawspan openings on the State Route 520 floating bridge and express lane changes to Interstate 90. Here is more information from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT):
On Saturday, Dec. 22, the SR 520 floating bridge drawspan is scheduled to open four times: 4:30, 5:30, 9 and 10:30 p.m. for a cruise ship. More drawspan opening are possible. Under Coast Guard rules, mariners are required to provide a two-hour notice. Drivers should plan ahead or expect a delay of up to 30 minutes while Washington State Department of Transportation bridge crews operate the span. Electronic message signs on highways leading to the bridge will advise drivers of the drawspan opening. Drivers can also sign up for text message or email alerts for upcoming "520 bridge openings."
In anticipation of additional traffic into Seattle on Sunday, Dec. 23, the I-90 express lanes will be open in the westbound direction from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. They will open to eastbound traffic by 7 p.m.
Drivers can monitor traffic conditions in downtown Seattle this weekend by checking the Seattle traffic map. The map shows when the express lanes are open. Drivers can also find the express lane schedules for both I-5 and I-90 and learn the reasons for occasional weekend schedule adjustments online.
