Police: 8-year-old girl sexually assaulted in Kent; teen in custody
KENT, Wash. -- Kent police say an 8-year-old girl was lured into the woods and sexually assaulted Thursday afternoon, and they believe a 14-year-old boy was the attacker.

The young girl walked into a Red Lion hotel just before 4:30 p.m. and told workers she had been attacked in the woods behind the hotel, which is located near 74th and Willis Street, according to Det. Melanie Frazier with the Kent Police Department.

The girl was taken to a local hospital. Her condition is not known.

Within an hour of learning of the assault, officers located a 14-year-old boy at his nearby home. The boy, who is a friend of one of the victim's family members, was taken into custody for questioning. Police expect to transport him to juvenile detention at some point.

"This is horrific," Frazier said. "You know, this hits home for everybody. A lot of us have children and an incident like this, words can't express how difficult it is to even process and to deal with situations like this, even as an officer."

The investigation is ongoing.
