LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- Dan Krauss can soar through the air and scale practically anything, but the local hero doesn't wear a cape or mask.

He uses his powers to help cats.

Krauss began his work as a feline crusader 13-years ago when a desperate cat owner called a tree service to rescue his cat from a tree.

An international tree climbing champion, Krauss decided to use his skill to rescue cats, and since then he's literally gone out on a limb for hundreds of hissing and spitting felines.

The man known as Tarzan Dan or Dan the Man has always loved cats. He recently helped out a cat named Hank, who had been stuck up a tree for two days.

The people who own the cats that Krauss rescues heap praise on him, but he doesn't let the attention go to his head.

"I don't really consider myself a hero, you know," he said. "I'm not running into burning buildings. I'm not getting shot at, I'm just rescuing a cat. I'm kind of hero light."

Krauss is quick to downplay his heroics, but anyone who's seen him in action knows it's no easy task. The most difficult part is actually getting the scared cat into a bag once he reaches it.

"And I yell down, 'The cat's in the bag!' And everybody's like, 'Oh, the cat's in the bag,'" he said.
