Arson at N. Seattle home may be attempt to cover up burglary
The fire was set at the rear of this North Seattle home.
SEATTLE - A Sunday night fire at a North Seattle home may have been intentionally set in an effort to cover up a burglary, police said.

Neighbors saw smoke coming from the home in the 11000 block of 20th Avenue NE just after 9 p.m. and called the Seattle Fire Department, said Seattle police spokeswoman Renee Witt.

Fire crews and officers responded to the scene. Firefighters told police that when they first arrived, they found the front door open with its window broken out. Crews contained the fire, which appeared to have been started in a back bedroom closet.

Further investigation determined that the residence had been burglarized and then a fire started, Witt said. The suspects attempted to enter via a basement door and when that didn’t work, they entered through the front by breaking the window.

Witt said it is unknown at this time if anything was taken. The Arson Bomb Squad responded and took over the investigation at the scene.
