Honoring 'forgotten' veterans
Volunteer flag planters flooded the rows of white grave markers this Veterans Day, placing flags for those who gave their lives, serving this country.
One man is making sure the ones who served, sacrificed time and family - who didn’t die but could have, who were just as scared and just as brave - got their flags too. Looking in the quiet parts of Evergreen Washelli Cemetery, he brushed away the branches, scraped off the moss and read the names of many vets who died the normal way, long after rejoining civilian life.
Josh Pruitt and his son Nicholas singled themselves out, wandering where there are no white tombstones. There are vets here, too - some even from the Spanish-American War. All will get their flags on this Veterans Day, thanks to Josh and Nicholas. - Stephen Ramaley
