Free pets go like hot cakes at Seattle Humane

"There were 50 people standing in line outside the door at opening at 11 a.m.," said Seattle Humane's Amanda Walde, of the free pet adoption event going on today through Sunday at 6 p.m. "We are busting at the seams with people adopting pets. We have seen 43 pets adopted in two hours."

With 226 pets adopted during last year's free adoption event, Walde is optimistic this weekend's response will break that record, "People are coming from all over Washington!"

Why, for heavens sake? One reason is the cost. Puppies usually cost $275, kittens cost $175, adult dogs are $200 and adult cats run $50.

Walde said the Bellevue Adoption Facility is loaded with kittens and more puppies will be brought in tomorrow. Hours are 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Fri. and Sat., 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sun.
