Craigslist iPhone deal turns into $10,000 armed robbery

SEATTLE -- A man selling a box of 50 iPhones for $10,000 on Craigslist surprisingly turned out to be not entirely on the up and up when he robbed his prospective buyer at gunpoint Monday in South Seattle, according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to the police report for the incident, the victim set up a meeting with the seller, put $10,000 in cash in his trunk and drove to meet the seller at a store in the 3800 block of Rainier Avenue South where the seller said he worked.

When the victim arrived at the store, the seller called him and told him to get into a car out front being driven by a man he said was his father, according to police. The victim did so, and the father drove around the back of the store, picked up the seller, and drove right back into the parking lot.

According to police, the victim received a box supposedly containing the 50 iPhones, but when he went to get his money, the seller showed a handgun in his waistband and demanded the cash.

The seller and his apparent father drove off with the victim's $10,000, and when the victim opened the box the iPhones turned out to be just a bunch of cans and trash, according to police.
