Gang member shot in South Seattle

SEATTLE - A self-admitted gang member was shot in the leg Saturday evening in South Seattle, and now gang unit detectives are investigating.

A call from Swedish Hospital reporting that a man was in the emergency room with a gunshot wound prompted officers to question the 21-year-old victim around 7:00 p.m..

Officers say the man told them he was walking near Rainier Avenue when he was shot in the leg. After he was shot, he called friends to take him to the hospital.

After admitting to police that he was in a gang, he also said there are several opposing gangs angry with him.

Around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, records show officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of South Court Street near Rainier Ave to investigate reports of shots being fired. They were unable to find any victims, but did locate shell casings on the ground.

Police have verified the two incidents are related, but the man was unable to provide a description of the car or suspects.

The man sustained a gunshot wound to the inner thigh but is expected to recover.
