Man with cane critically injured in apparent hit-and-run

SEATTLE -- A man with a cane who may have been trying to cross the six-lane Rainier Avenue South mid-block Wednesday suffered life-threatening injuries in an apparent hit and run, according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to police, a witness heard a thunk just before 4 p.m. and saw a man lying in the southbound curb lane of Rainier Avenue near Franklin High School.

When officers arrived, the man was still lying unresponsive in the street.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center. And, officers are still trying to get a description of the unknown vehicle that hit him, according to police.
