Shots fired in Rainier Beach

SEATTLE -- Numerous shots were fired Monday night in Rainier Beach possibly resulting in one man being shot in the heel, though he was not very forthcoming with information about his injury, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Officers were called to 56th Avenue South and South Fletcher Street around 9:40 p.m. after people reported hearing gunshots.

According to police, officers found a number of shell casings in the 9200 block of Rainier Avenue South and even more casings behind a nearby building.

Witnesses said they saw four cars stop quickly and three men get out and walk off prior to the shooting. After hearing gunshots, witnesses said the men ran back to the cars and drove off.

About 30 minutes later, an 18-year-old was dropped off at Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his heel.

According to police, the man said he was shot near 25th Avenue South and South Jackson Street -- six miles from the Rainier Beach shooting.

But, a lack of evidence or witnesses at that location, plus the victim's vagueness on the details of the shooting, have led police to believe it's highly likely he was involved in the Rainier Beach shooting.
