Six hoping to be crowned Lakefair Queen

Olympia's annual summer festival is just around the corner.

When Lakefair kicks off on July 14, six contestants will be hoping to earn the crown of Lakefair Queen.

The tradition has been part of the festival for more than 50 years and offers college scholarships to participants.

Lakefair runs from July 14 through July 18. The fireworks show is slated for Sunday night. The queen will be crowned at a ceremony on July 15.

Here are this year's contestants:

Josepha (Jo) Burke, North Thurston High School: Burke is the daughter of Stephen and Barbara Burke. She plans to attend one of three universities and major in either psychology or journalism with a minor in linguistics or perhaps drama.

Myranda (Mo) Bell, Timberline High School: Bell is the daughter of Heidi Ruble. She plans to attend a four year college and go into either physical therapy or pre-med.

Hannah Leib, Olympia High School: Leib is the daughter of Lisa Gorman and Ken Leib. She plans to attend a four year college and major in speech pathology, eventually obtaining her Masters Degree.

Josephine (Josie) Coury, Capital High School: Coury is the daughter of Bassam and Verena Coury. Josephine plans to attend Princeton and begin pre-med study specializing in Interventional Radiology. She plans to travel and work in the Boer community in South Africa.

Lydia Kautsky, Tumwater High School: Kautsky is the daughter of Mikael and Christie Kautsky. Kautsky will be attending a four year university, but has not made a decision on which one. She will be majoring in Math.

Aleigha Williams, Black Hills High School: Williams is the Daughter of Chris and Mimi Williams. She would like to attend a college and then onto medical school.
