A 200-pound engine hoist fell on a 5-year-old boy outside a home on Kalmia Court SE near Yelm this afternoon.
Southeast Thurston Fire Authority Chief Rita Hutcheson says her crew was called to the home just after 3:45 p.m.
"It's obviously life-threating injuries but he was concious and alert," Hutcheson said.
The boy was airlifted to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma around 4:15 p.m.
"It fell on his chest, his stomach. He was complaining of abdominal pains and there's some bleeding above his belly button and shortness of breath," Hutcheson said.
The big concern is internal bleeding, the chief added.
