In Ireland, where unemployment last month rose to 11 percent, they use the "pajama index" to describe the number of people who pick up their kids from school in their PJs because they no longer even bother to get dressed. Sound familiar? Seattle blogger Keri Robinson devised her own “house pants” scale to deduce the unemployed person’s level of social isolation. Fashion types may prefer the trendier "pant," but you know what I mean, anything with a stretched-out elastic waistband and Hello Kitty print.
