Ingredients

Fried Cheese with Sweet Tartar Sauce - 8/22/2005

1 lb. Jarlsberg cheese 1 cup flour
3 eggs 1/4 cup milk
2 cups breadcrumbs 2-3 cups canola or peanut oil
1 cup mayonnaise 2 Tbl. sweet pickle relish
2 Tbl. chopped capers 1 Tbl. minced chives
Salt & pepper to taste 2 Tbl. lemon juice

Directions

Cut Jarlsberg cheese into triangles. Coat both sides of cheese in flour. Dip in mixture of egg and milk, then coat with breadcrumbs. Press breadcrumbs on by hand.

Let cheese rest for a few minutes, then dip in the egg wash again followed by more breadcrumbs to make a thicker crust.

Fry in 350 degree oil until golden brown. Some melted cheese will seep out, but the thick crust should hold most of the cheese.

To make the sweet tartar sauce, mix mayonnaise, sweet relish, capers and chives. Season with salt and pepper, then finish with lemon juice. Whisk together to tartar sauce consistency. Serves 4.
