After 19 years as a mortgage banker, Steve Walker literally turned to the bottle to get him through the hard times: "As everybody knows who has watched the news or has read the papers, it was a good time to get out of that business." So, on May 1, Steve and two of his buddies opened Grand Cru Wine Shop & Bar: "Grand Cru is a term that is the very best cuvees, the very best wines associated with Bordeauxs and Burgundys."
There's also a sizeable collection of small plates. "Pates, crostini, different cheese plates. One of our most popular happy hour items is the pork sliders. You get two sizeable pork sliders with chips for five-dollars. So, it's a great way to fill up and be able to taste a lot of great wine, really." Grand Cru offers the whole wine lifestyle experience to those who are new to wine - as well as seasoned collectors. "During the week, it's mostly a very comforting place to end your day. On Friday nights, which is our 'Thank God It's Champagne' Fridays, we play 80s music all night long and serve 16 different bubblies by the glass."
