Ken Schram: Cold-hearted ideological views

Conservatives can be so unbelievably cold-hearted.

They are so wrapped around the issue of undocumented workers that they can't even bring themselves to acknowledge the actions of a man who saved a young boy's life.

Manuel Jesus Cordova had spent two days making his way from Mexico into the United States.

In the Arizona desert, he came across a 9-year-old American boy, injured and alone.

The boy's mother had been killed when their van went over a cliff.

Cordova gave the boy his sweater and fed him what little food he had.

He then built a campfire, and as the boy slept, kept watch over him throughout the night.

Hunters found them late the next day.

The boy was taken to a hospital.

Cordova was sent back to Mexico.

It's been suggested that having saved the life of that boy, Mr.Cordova be allowed to come back to the U.S., get a work visa and the opportunity to become a citizen.

But there's no bienvenidos from most conservatives, just a lot of self-righteous chest thumping accompanied by shrill complaints about "illegal aliens."

How sad that their stilted, cold-hearted ideological views leave them with a shallow idea of what America should be.
