SEATTLE - It's not just a sports arena.
It's a MULTIPURPOSE REGIONAL CENTER.
Whatever it's called, it's going to cost $500 million.
She says it's worth it, but then, it's not her money.
So, would Governor Christine Gregoire, get out from behind that humongous gubernatorial desk and come on down.
Our state's chief executive has stopped just short of pulling out the pom-poms and leading a cheer in favor of a new Sonics arena in Renton.
Oops. I mean MULTIPURPOSE REGIONAL CENTER in Renton.
Anyway, the team wants at least $300 million from the state; at least another $100 million from the City of Renton.
I suppose the other $100 million will come from the peanuts and popcorn concessions.
Governor Gregoire is mostly interested in saving the WNBA Storm, but can't think of a way to do that without the Sonics.
Sonics owner Clay Bennett is only interested in fleecing taxpayers by building what even he admits will be the most expensive arena in the country.
Excuse me, make that MULTIPURPOSE REGIONAL CENTER.
Anyway, for her willingness to help facilitate said fleecing; for her "misspeaking" and insisting that no state dollars will be used in this project, and for failing to make a jump shot at the buzzer, come on down Governor, 'cause this "Schrammie's" for you.

And be sure to join Ken, along with John Carlson, on "The Commentators", which airs every weekday from 9-Noon on AM 570 KVI.
It's a lively exchange of information, insight and perspective with two guys who don't agree on much, but still manage to enjoy each other as they tackle issues of the day. Even better, callers are invited in on the verbal action.
