The Schrammie: Training for common sense?

Sure is hot.

How hot is it?

Why, it's so hot that state officials are boiling over with new rules for the "...promulgation of health and safety standards..."

So would Judy Schurke, Director of the revered State Department of Labor and Industries, please put away that bottle of Perrier and come on down?

Director Judy should be mighty proud of helping to provide reams of rules protecting the proletariat from - ready? - the perils of hot weather!

Oh yeah.

From defining what water is, to regulations specifying how frequently thirst should be quenched, Director Judy set out to assure the working masses have a good grasp of shade, hydration and a work/rest regimen.

In other words, when it gets hot take a sip and have a sit where the sun ain't shining.

I don't know where we'd be were it not for the diligence of the Department of L&I to instruct employers and employees who may know enough to come in out of the rain but apparently are absolute dolts when it comes to seeking shelter from the sun.

So, for specific instructions as to when we should wet our whistle; for using our tax dollars for power point presentations on general perils of hot weather and for conducting NO FEWER than a dozen training seminars on everything from humidity to misting fans, take a bow Director Judy, because this "Schrammie" is for you!

And be sure to join Ken, along with John Carlson, on "The Commentators", which airs every weekday from 9-Noon on AM 570 KVI.

It's a lively exchange of information, insight and perspective with two guys who don't agree on much, but still manage to enjoy each other as they tackle issues of the day. Even better, callers are invited in on the verbal action.
