The Schrammie: Big government hard at work

Convoluted, confusing and confounding.

Yes, it's big government hard at work.

I'd like to invite three diligent dilettantes from our state's very own congressional delegation to put their political perks aside for a moment and come on down.

Representatives Dave Reichert, Doc Hastings and Cathy McMorris all saw fit to stick it to single parents who are desperate to collect child support payments from their deadbeat ex-husbands and ex-wives.

As part of a grandiose plot to reduce the federal deficit, they all voted for a $25 annual fee which will now be collected from those parents who are forced to use official channels to hunt down the money required to help raise their children.

Fidgeting with fiscal responsibility at the expense of little boys and girls may seem unduly harsh, but let us note that Dave, Doc and Cathy were magnanimously willing to excuse those who are on welfare, as well as those who collect less than $500 in child support during the course of a year.

Be that as it may, for taking food from the mouths of children; for spending money like drunken sailors and sending single parents the bill and for setting a fee that we all know will rise and rise and rise, take a bow Representatives Reichert, Hastings and McMorris, because this "Schrammie" is for you.

And be sure to join Ken, along with John Carlson, on "The Commentators", which airs every weekday from 9-Noon on AM 570 KVI.

It's a lively exchange of information, insight and perspective with two guys who don't agree on much, but still manage to enjoy each other as they tackle issues of the day. Even better, callers are invited in on the verbal action.
