SEATTLE - Golly gee whiz wow.

Shut down two years ago, the downtown bus tunnel has reopened to applause aplenty.

Only I'm not clapping.

I might've been able to muster the appropriate enthusiasm were it not for… the mirrors.

I'm talking about those bus mirrors that threaten to whack some poor unsuspecting soul upside the head because when they lowered the roadbed in the tunnel, it wound up raising the mirrors to the level of decapitation.

Now some will argue that’s but a minor safety point, and I might have been inclined to agree except that it's one more screw up on top of all the other screw ups.

Remember, we spent $445 million to build a tunnel designed to handle light rail.

Whoops, the rails weren't installed correctly.

Whoops, the sprinkler system wasn't installed correctly.

Whoops, the ventilation system was all wrong.

So two years ago, Metro closed the $445 million tunnel saying it would cost $83 million more to fix.

Only it ended up costing $94 million more.

And getting whacked with mirrors?

Oh, that's priceless.

Golly gee whiz wow.

Sorry, I just don't feel like clapping.
