Which digital cameras rated best?
By Herb Weisbaum
SEATTLE -- It's a good time to buy a digital camera -- prices are down and models are loaded with features. Many subcompact cameras, those small enough to fit into your pocket ,are as cheap as the bigger compact models.
For its July issue, Consumer Reports tested 40 point-and-shoot cameras. The editors say two Sony models are the best subcompacts-- the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W200 which sells for $300 and the Cybershot DSC-T70 which is a few dollars less. Consumer Reports says they have "the best image quality," excellent next-shot delay and they do well when shooting in low light. The magazine's Terry Sullivan says both cameras have sleek designs and slick controls. They have touch-screen controls. "Instead of fooling with knobs, you actually just touch the screen and set the settings” he said. Consumer Reports named the Canon PowerShot A720IS, a Best Buy in the compact category. The A720IS got high marks for image quality and versatility. It has a 6X optical zoom and sells for around $180. More Information: Buying a digital camera: how to choose Digital SLRs |
