HOA has problem with color of play house
A Georgia homeowner says she will move before she makes changes that her homeowners association is ordering. At the center of the issue: A child's playhouse. Brett Buffington has more.

Must not be any illegals from Mexico in that HOA. Everything would be painted that color if there were!
I have no HOA and no CCR's telling me what to do or not to do. I only have zoning laws to deal with and this is how it should be!
Â
Ever since Over the Hedge came out, I see that crazed woman every time I read something about an HOA... ;)
For everyone that says HOAs are horrible, they are only horrible if they are done incorrectly (unfortunately most are). HOAs do wonders for ensuring that common areas are kept pristine and the general look of the neighborhood remains consistent (in its quality of appearance). Beyond that, rules like what type of vehicle you can drive what color you can paint with, or where you can plant trees is somewhat ridiculous ... until your neighbor wants to paint their house black.
This is about as dumb as the woman that sued McDonald's because she spilled hot coffee on herself. Good grief, so what the playhouse is pink!!!! This HOA must have an abundance of money in it's fund. They should just leave this woman alone and let her granddaughter have her playhouse. A lawsuit because of color!!!! stupid.
Some home owners associations are an effin' joke. I helped my dad plant 2 evergreen trees probably about 10 years ago and they are now about 12-13 feet tall. Our ridiculous neighbors at that time(recently moved out earlier this summer) complained about it to the city because it was on the "greenbelt" side of our backyard(about 3 feet beyond the actual property line). The backyard was not fenced (it's fenced with 5ft tall chicken wire now though), the city ended up calling my parents and telling them they had to pay to plant them there. They never did. Then the Home Owners Association had gotten involved and didn't care less, which is why our neighbors had called the city. The mindset from everyone in the HOA was, well, at least we weren't chopping down trees in the greenbelt. This was in Marysville in Otter Creek by the way.
I personally WON'T buy a house with a HOA when i do decide to buy one.
I'm sorry, but if it is in my FENCED back yard, then you can take your HOA and put it where the sun don't shine. I just don't see how the color of a well kept playhouse decreases the value of a neighbor's home?
Â
I might respond to the HOA "Ok, you want it a different color? YOU paint it, but you have to run the color by me first.Beyond that, I bet that the shade of pink that was chosen is the little girl's favorite color.
So the HOA is suing this lady with HOA monies...which are gleaned from HOA members...a fund to which this homeowner is required to pay HOA fees as an HOA member.
Hey folks: She's being Sued with Her Own Money! Isn't there a conflict of interest here?
They should review how THIS one turned out:

Â
A paint color dispute for a 12-foot section of fence cost the HOAÂ (that is, the residents)Â $83000 in legal fees. (the HOA lost the battle).
I was about to rent an townhouse about a decade ago in Florida, everything was moving along until the HOA stepped in. Â I was told there were no trucks allowed in the complex. Â I had taken this to mean no work trucks or plumbing vans... Â but NOPE... no trucks PERIOD. Â Not even a personal, unmarked F150 or an S10. Â HOA's so often overstep their boundaries and cause more damage to the price of property than they realize. Â
I will reprise my comment from 8 weeks ago :
Â
Everyone in a community of detached houses needs to submit a motion (at every meeting) to dissolve the HOA, or reduce its powers to managing the common areas ONLY. In addition, any expansion of their power needs a 100% vote of the property owners.
Â
Why anyone would want yet ANOTHER layer of government (face it, that is what an HOA is) to take money and give orders?Â
The best solution to this problem is for the teeny, tiny bureaucrats who run HOA's to understand that their lust for power is pitiful. If you didn't make it in "real" life, you're not going to make it now. Â Go look in the mirror and ask yourself, I mean truly, is the value of anyone's home going to be diminished by this pretty little playhouse? Â I think not. Suggest you spend some time with a counselor trying to figure out how to fix your lust for pushing people around.
Â
A Homeowner's Association is one of the worst ideas to come out of the minds of small people in our lifetimes. And by small, I mean greedy, grasping closed minds. Everyone has one life to live. Let them live it with all the happiness they can find.
HOA's are nothing but a rip-off. They take your money and your freedom...
Â
...people just willfully submit themselves to it.Â
I would hate to even live in a neighborhood where the neighbors were that petty. I don't see anything wrong with the little playhouse and I'm fairly certain these people just have to much time on their hands if that is
what they consider a problem.
This is why I would NEVER live in an area that has a HOA.
