Oh, yeah, just look at the innocent little "What did I do?" expression. Cats have been pulling that one on us for thousands of years.

 @DylanJ It is estimated that cats have been domesticated for about 8,000 years, starting in Mesopotamia. My hypothesis is that about fifteen minutes after the first cat became domesticated, it slipped into the house, jumped up on the table and knocked something over. The cat's owner scolded it, and that expression has been a cat's primary tool for turning away human annoyance ever since.
It's a good thing that the owner is able to keep the cat with her.
