11-year-old girl's bear hunt dream becomes a reality
Bear hunting season is slowly coming to a close in Wisconsin. And one girl from Stetsonville took advantage of it, killing a 335-pound bear. But this wasn't any ordinary hunt. Nancy Yousef explains.
Reading all the comments has been very entertaining!
Bear meat... mmm tasty, tasty! Vegans, Vegetarians etc our ancestors ate meat. I eat meat, likely the folks in this video used the meat to eat as well. You don't have to like it but don't crap on those who do hunt to put food on the table. I am sure someone out there could say something about your parenting skills so get off the "I am so much better because..." pedestal.Â
@PrairieDawn Did they say what they planned on doing with the bear? All she said was that she was really thankful that she shot a bear.
@PrairieDawn Never been a fan of bear meat. Too stringy and the smell of it when cooking drives me away. Now moose and elk on the other hand...
Attention all you bunny huggers. The fact that a family is spending time with their child instead of buying them the new Xbox game to keep them occupied is a great thing. Learning to hunt teaches one that life is to be respected. Our kids accompany our family every year during a week long hunting trip. I am not going to tell my kids that an animal does not have to die to put food on the table. They know that meat does not magically appear in styrofoam packages wrapped in cellophane at the grocery store. I am glad to know I am teaching my kids about what life is really about. I am not relying on the biased media, liberal teachers, or those with a narrow view of the world to educate my children. My kids have a deeper respect for life than those they go to school with who are calibrating their moral compass from video games and movies.
@JeepRex She said she didn't see it as a bear, she saw it as a "300 pound lion that is about to attack you". Talk about needing to create drama. Why not just hunt those dogs in the video for the same experience? Why is one animal a pet, and another a target?
@JeepRex If you were honest, you would tell your children that animals in fact do NOT need to die in order to put food on the table. Dead animal corpses are not a human dietary requirement; claiming so is nothing more than an excuse to justify your cruelty towards animals. Maiming, torturing and killing animals in the presence of children and/or allowing or encouraging them to do so themselves teaches children that life is not to be respected and cruelty and apathy are acceptable behaviors. In fact, apathy is one of the main characteristics of sociopaths; why not leave a legacy of kindness and compassion instead of misery, blood and death?Â
@Jennifer Um... OK. I can clearly see you are not educated on the topic of eating meat and making an ethical kill. Deer, Elk, Bear, meat is some of the most nutritious food available. Much more than what you can buy in the supermarket.
No one in the video was shoving "kill everything" down peoples throats. Instead, all the weak non-meat eaters are trying to push their views on society.

Yes, I am a member of PETA.People for Eating Tasty Animas
@Jennifer  @JeepRex We do not know if this girl was taught to respect life or not. You are just assuming something from the video and it does not really show anything conclusive. Killing an animal does not mean that you do not respect the life you are taking. In fact, my father and generations before taught the respect of life even as avid hunters. If more people had to actually kill their food and connect with the fact that something must die for them to eat that steak there would be a lot more respect of life than less of it. You say you are a vegan, fine. But don't apply your world view to everyone else that does not believe what you do. Live and let live.
@Jennifer No contradiction at all if you consider the context that I said it. I clearly stated it regarding not imposing your values on other people, not the tasty animals you don't like eating.
Whether meat is a dietary requirement is debated still but it seems likely a person can live without it. However, this has nothing to do with whether its required or not. You wrongly impose your ideas that hunting is "nothing more than humans' excuse to justify finding pleasure in the misery they inflict upon other living beings". What a crock. I've known a lot of hunters in my day and I've never met one that was looking for an excuse to "find pleasure by inflicting misery on animals". Certainly there are some ingrates out there that do but they are by far the exception. You can't separate your emotions from reality and project your irrational ideas onto people. If you don't like meat fine, don't eat it, but as I said earlier live and let live. We meatatarians aren't telling you that you should stop eating vegetables why can't you do us the same favor?
@SeattleJoe Live and let live? Wow; contradiction at its finest right there. What you are failing to understand is that killing and consuming animal corpses is in no way a human dietary requirement. Killing and consuming the flesh of animals is strictly a choice, not a requirement; therefore killing an animal is 100% unnecessary to sustain human life. The "hunting" of animals is nothing more than humans' excuse to justify finding pleasure in the misery they inflict upon other living beings as they kill them, which is an absolutely unnecessary evil.Â
This is truly sickening and repulsive. Â Shame on all involved in this 'last wish'. Â What a nasty, misguided little child this must be to 'dream' of taking the life of a bear. Â
@LilyT The dream was to have a bear hunt. The video did not mention the dream was to kill it, though that is obviously implied.Â
@LilyT Welcome to reality. Not everyone has such a narrow view of life like yourself.
Like so many others on this board I am sickened by this wanton display of cowardice and cruelty.
Â
Support the right to arm bears!
@Furd Hmmm, if bears are not armed now then might I suggest that we put you and a bear in a cage for a couple days. After all, the bear is not armed so you will have no problems.
I am absolutely shocked by this child's wish being granted instead of being guided by sensible adults into requesting a more humane, compassionate wish. Those adults just taught this child that it's ok to kill an innocent animal who had a family of its own and to be proud of it, and also that its perfectly ok not to have respect for the life of living beings. Very sick and extremely sad.Â
@Ana Strangely you think that to respect life you cannot kill it. I know people who have a great deal of respect for life but are avid hunters. Your perceptions about respect of life is quite flawed.
Sad. I can't understand the need/want for anyone to intentionally kill a wild animal hunting, just for the "fun" of it. Really shows no compassion, empathy or sympathy for animals who struggle just to survive.
Great hunt young one! More youth need to get out there and learn to hunt. My 12 year old girl started archery a month ago. Shes wanting to hunt this spring and I bet her grouping will be perfect by then.Â
@BornAndRaisedInWA Wow, we're in the presence of a bona fide, unevolved, redneck idiot.  Shame on you teaching your daughter that taking life is entertainment.  Who do you think you are?  The animals you slaughter for your own amusement are worth 100 of you. Hope you have a hunting accident real soon, y'hear?
@LilyT I hope you live a long healthy life, and I wish you all the best. To me nothing is worth your life. I would never wish death on someone who doesn't agree with my lifestyle, but I guess I'm the "unevovled, redneck idiot."  I'm proud of my daughter for wanting to learn and continue my family's Tradition. Â
@LilyT @Jennifer  T So by your comments I am assuming you are a Vegetarian and have never purchased meat from the grocery store... A true hunter (like myself) does not hunt for the fun of it. I hunt to save money and put food on my table for my family. The meat that I choose to eat is truely orgainic and I know how it is processed!!!! For someone sounding so self righteous I hope you own nothing that is leather, seude, fur. And the comment of I hope you have a hunting accident is no different, seriously wishing death or harm on someone because they have different beliefs than you is moronic.
@LilyT  @lamdalou  @Jennifer Damn I hate this livefyre system. My comment was directed to LilyT.
 @LilyT  @lamdalou  @Jennifer Back at cha.
@lamdalou  @Jennifer I'm a vegan also, lamdalou.  It's nice that you're a "true" hunter (note the sarcasm), but this girl certainly isn't and she enjoyed taking the life of that bear. I highly doubt she and her family ate it.  That's vile and disgusting in my opinion.  As for me hoping that moron down south who takes pleasure from killing has a hunting accident, I most certainly do. You should reap what you sow in this world.  And I could give a flying one what someone like YOU thinks of my comment.
@lamdalou Yes, you have assumed correctly; I am vegan, in fact. And to answer your question, no, I do not own any leather, suede (which is also leather by the way), nor fur. I believe in treading lightly on our planet and by living as kindly, compassionately and humanely as possible. I am proud to have two incredibly kind and compassionate children as well, both of whom are growing into amazingly caring and empathetic young people who will be great assets and contributors to our society in the future. Your argument defending hunting as a cost-efficient means of providing food for your family is a false statement because the cost of a vegan diet is considerably less cost-wise and much healthier nutritionally than a meat-based diet by far.Â
@BornAndRaisedInWA Teaching a child to find pleasure in intentionally causing the pain, suffering and eventual death of living creatures is a tragedy on many levels; for the animals who will suffer horribly as a result as well as the mental and emotional health and well being of the child.Â
@Jennifer  @BornAndRaisedInWA You make a great deal of unfounded assumptions here. You assume the animal will "suffer horribly". Being shot is often a much quicker less painful death than the animals experience in the wild as they starve, die of disease, fall off a cliff or are ripped apart by predators. Additionally, letting a child hunt does not detrimentally affect a childs emotional health and well being. You are imposing your values on the children and they are simply not you.Â
Years ago I saw a program that showed handicapped people in wheelchairs shooting bison thru a cyclone fence. They were blowing the legs, jaws etc off the animals. Disgusting.
@Klondiko No ethical hunter would support this kind of thing. Thats just not good at all. Those people should have been taken to the range and become proficient before taken out to actually "hunt".
How absolutely disgusting and sad! It is extremely disturbing that a young girl's dream in life is to slaughter an incredibly beautiful animal. This country has no hope if our youth, especially our female youth, fantasizes about slaughtering and blood and death. This story makes me sick to my stomach. Clearly this family has NO respect for life whatsoever. Absolutely sickening.Â
@Jennifer Humans do crazy things. One minute they will complain about the killing of an animal the next minute they will march off to a pro-abortion rally. Strange that they will cry so hard at the death of an animal but actually support the killing innocent humans.Â
@Jennifer You should never leave the city.
@BornAndRaisedInWA City living isn't required to lead a kind, compassionate and respectable life with a basic knowledge of right and wrong, but intelligence and empathy is.Â
Unbelievable!! A little girls wish is to kill an innocent animal?? A real class act. How about doing something positive and leaving a legacy instead of blood all over the earth?
This family should be ashamed of themselves.

@BornAndRaisedInWA  @Mike So BornAndRaisedinWA, you're implying that Mike is a homosexual because he objects to morons like you killing animals for fun? Grow up.  Most women would find Mike a lot more attractive than they'd find you.Â
@LilyT Actually I was implying he needs to move back to California. No I don't have a problem with gay people. Your just digging for something.
@LilyT  @BornAndRaisedInWA  @Mike Does people like you ever think for yourselves?
@BornAndRaisedInWA I was born and raised in WA too. What is your point? Killing an animal is a way of life? For what? Sport? Survival? Fun?
