Meira, wanted to comment on your very articulate post in response to Dolorine Troutman's frankly scary comments.
I logged on here in order to thank & congratulate Joel Moreno for writing the article. My understanding is he has been receiving hate mail from Cesar devotees. I am late to the party here, but wanted him to know he has my support as well as the support of all people who only condone positive & condemn force methods. I am still in disbelief over reading Dolorine's comment about how it is OK & not inhumane to cut off a dogs air supply. I have to wonder if she/he really believes that & if so, how could anyone condone violence against an innocent animal. Right on to your comment about The Michael Vick Dogs. Thankfully, Cesar's influence is fading as more people "get it". It is sad the public's obsession with celebrity & how they have flocked to this cruel & dangerous man because he is famous.
Regarding the two dog trainers seen at 2:02 and 2:07. I would be willing to bet that if either of them were asked to help the dog shown at 2:00, they would tell the owner to have the dog destroyed and get another. How do you correct a dog as out of control as that dog, with "positive reinforcement"? Just tell the animal to be nice and give him a cookie? Milan corrects dogs that other "Trainers" would just give up on. Using a choker chain is not inhumane. It is used to control the dogs head and temporarilly cut off the air supply. It works, especially on difficult and aggressive animals. The people who criticize Milan`s techniques, are the same types of people who think that making hard core prisoners comfortable and giving them a daily slice of cake, is how you rehabilitate them.  Â
@Dolorine Troutman Dog shown at 2:00? You mean the Jindo? You would be willing to bet what that the two trainers wouldn't take the dog on? The fact that you just think it? They are professionals, with educated, scientific backgrounds. Force free training isn't just about tossing cookies all over the place. You are sorely mistaken if that's what you believe it to be. If you really think that you need to cut off a dog's air supply, IE strangle a dog to get it to trust you, then I feel sorry for any dogs you might work with. What it will do is garner you a dog who distrusts, and at its worst, may garner you a bite. True behavior modification is keeping the dog under threshold and then working on the dog's fears, teaching it what you want it to do, instead of correcting it for what you don't want it to do.You can either motivate a dog by using what it wants or needs, or you can motivate a dog by using something that causes it pain, or scares it. Plain and simple. If you think force free methods don't work, then please tell me what happened to the Michael Vick dogs? What about the millions of other dogs out there being treated with force free methods? This man is abusive, an no professional organization endorses him. Doesn't that make you wonder?
Thank you Mr. Moreno for an actual news report:Â Well balanced, unbiased and well spoken.Â
