Memories were shared, many tears were shed - and yet there was laughter, too - as friends, family and the community came together Sunday to celebrate the life of Kathi Goertzen.
Family, friends and co-workers gathered on Sunday to remember and celebrate the life of Kathi Goertzen.
Washington State University announced Friday that it will be naming a building at The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication in honor of KOMO 4 News anchor Kathi Goertzen.
I don’t know that any of us at KOMO can even begin to express how much you have meant to us in the last several days. Kathi’s death struck us to our core. Our hearts have been breaking.
I watched Kathi over the years on KOMO, and I feel I've lost a friend, even though I never met her in person. Thank you, KOMO for the tribute that you've posted online to let us mourn with you in the loss of your friend and colleague.
Such extreme grace under fire. my prayers to all who was touched by her.
Gosh Kathi... I can't say that I knew you personally. I can say though that I, like many in Washington grew up with you and your beauty. You will be thought of often and missed for ages.
I just heard of Kathi's passing. I watched her for years when I lived in Tacoma, and was shocked to know such a wonderful person is no longer with us. My deepest sypathy goes to her family. She will be missed so much by so many people.
Truth of the matter is this: KOMO 4 will NEVER be the same again with such a great lost! We loved her dearly. My prayers to her family, KOMO 4 (who by the way, did an unspeakable job honoring her) Thank you KOMO 4, for allowing the human part of you to grieve with the rest of us. I have a renewed respect for such a human reply from such a professional broadcasting team: Komo 4 ...I know Kathy is smiling down on you all! Keith Darnell Wilson, Kent, WA
RIP....you were a very compassionate and loving soul....God bless you.
I am 35 years old and grew up watching kathi on tv. Feels like she is family. Rest in peace kathi
Damn, it feels like I knew her. Sad.
My prayers are with Kathi's precious family and her friends. All those loved ones are left to brave the waters of the emotional tides that will swell up like waves roliing in, sometimes unexpectantly..and then rolling out again, leaving behind the sweet memories of what was..   God is however, the Commnader of the Winds, The Waves, The Seas and all that is in them Ps 135:5-6. May He be the One to comfort, heal and uphold Kathi's family, her friends and all the viewers that will grieve her passing.

She was adorable. I thought this long before she became ill. I'd see her on the news when I came home from work and think 'geez, she's really a pretty girl and how nice she was". A real joy to watch. God be with her precious family and with her. No more stress now Kathi. GBY, A Fan
I can think of a couple of words to describe Kathi. Strong, caring and passionate. I know there are more but those are what comes to mind when I watched this video. Kathi you will be missed.

Kathy was such a wonderful person and had a heart of gold. She was tremendous news caster and will be missed tremendously. I have always watched KOMO News and loved the team. Without Kathy their will be a void that will touch the hearts of everyone. The Family of KOMO News will be hard hit by her loss, but I know will carry the traditions and spirit she brought to the team. My condolensces to her family and friends. She is at peace to suffer no more. May everyone be inspired by her courage and tenacity.
Although i come from Canada, i have watched komo news many times with Kathi. Â My many trips to the States seeing her beautiful picture on billboards, knowing how important she was to people in the USA. Â I loved to listen to her voice in the news. Â No words can express my sorrow for her family who have shared her with the world. Â Her soothing voice of news, good, or bad. Â Rest in Peace KathiÂ
This is a very sad day for such an incredible woman. She has been a part of our lives everynight and she has been and will be missed.
