AMC kills crime drama set in Seattle
SEATTLE -- After just two season, AMC has cancelled its Seattle based police drama The Killing.
A statement released by the network said after much deliberation executives had come to the difficult decision not to renew the show for a third season.
“AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on the project, from showrunner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast,” read a statement posted on IMDB.com.
The Killing is based on a Danish television series with the same English title.
The series, set in Seattle but filmed in Vancouver British Columbia, follows the investigation into the murder of a teenager. Each episode covers approximately 24 hours in time.
Fox Television Studios has said it plans to look for another network that might be interested in continuing to air future seasons of the show.
Big deal, it's not even filmed here!
Given the sheer amount of Internet nerd rage the season 1 finale generated (I never watched it, but I certainly heard about it,) I'm kind of surprised it actually lasted another season instead of the producers getting run out on a rail right then and there.
Based in seattle but filmed in Vancouver BC... Come ON... film it where the story is based... I don't watch tv but by the shows I hear about coming out these days when i see a tv program running I don't miss it at all...
This show sucks.
This is why I like HBO and showtime. They rarely if ever take a perfectly good show and just dump it without offering a legitimate ending.Â
It was getting very boring... very slow...Â
Oh man!! I LOVE this show!! Hope another network picks it up!!
That blows, I loved that show.
Hopefully another network will pick it up. I enjoyed it for the most part. They could have left out the political sub-plot altogether and I would have been fine with that. And my son and I routinely joked that it's ALWAYS raining in this show.
even in the sixties the movies were not location accurate as "The Slender Thread" shows the fire departments Aid 2 stationed at 4th and battery going north on 4th ave then a few minutes latter it arrives at the motel at 180th and pacific hwy so. then  "Rose Red" was also not location accurate. most shots were done at a sand point hanger on the sand point park complex.
never heard of it so no loss. of course i cut the money hungry satellite 3 years ago. just get local or use the internet.
I must admit I am tired of all of the Seattle movies and TV shows being actually filmed in Vancouver B.C. When is Seattle going to realize that promoting the film industry here is a GOOD THING. Give them some incentives. It's good for the city, its citizens, and the economy by keeping work IN THE USA.
@Ethan Allen City of seattle killed the movie industry by charging fees on every part of movie production so the industry left.
I liked the show. the actors were awesome.
Â
AMC? What's that? I have looked high and low on Dish Network and can't find it. They must have fallen off the face of the earth or something.
@LongBeachBum My buddy called Dish network to ask why he can't view his favorite AMC show and they told him they cut AMC. Then they asked if he had a PS3, Roku or Xbox type streaming system...he said no. They then said he was eligible for a free Roku player, which they sent him so he could stream AMC and other things like Netflix, Amazon video, etc. SO the moral of the story is - if you want AMC programming (or a free Roku box ) call Dish and tell them.
That's because Dish doesn't carry it, just Comcast and DirecTV.
If you've been to Vancouver and Toronto a few times and walked around them enough you start recognizing which is which in shows and movies where they are being portrayed as some generic American city. Definitely funny where they are shown as a stand in for a specific place. Â
O.K I get the Canadian film subsidy angle, but could they at least hire someone from Seattle with the money they save, so the errors aren't so stupid.
I liked the show but am still trying to figure out where that indian casino was supposed to be.
@Klondiko I thought that same thing... It seemed like it was across from Seattle so Bainbridge?  But it was so close it could have been Mercer Island it didn't make much sense...
This show had some good aspects and some poor aspects. On a local note, I do have to say that the Canadian show supposed to be in Seattle thing drove me nuts. I almost stopped watching for good when they went to Maple Valley in one episode. The huge cargo ships and bustling harbor on what must have supposedly been Lake Wilderness was beyond laughable.Â
@WWRJD Which episode was that?  I liked this show, and I live on Lake Wilderness (looking at it right now!) and completely missed that.
Â
I don't have a problem with substituting names and places. Â It's fiction, and this was good fiction.
@WWRJD I know a lot of Alaskans who felt the same way about Northern Exposure being filmed here. And I have to say, I agree, TV shows and movies should be shot in the place where they are set.
@alaska_dreamin  @WWRJD Does that go for Star Wars too??????
@LongBeachBum Really? Firstly I didn't pose a question, I made a statement. Secondly what I suggested is actually possible, and what you suggest is not possible. So I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. Have a great night. :-)
@alaska_dreamin My question was no more stupid than yours. Figure the cost of trying to produce a series in AK. Compare that to Hollywood or Washington. If anything like Star Wars comes around damn right I would like it made in outer space. AK_dreamin is a dreamer and needs a reality check and a cost study of doing something one place as apposed to another.
@LongBeachBum Do you think that question actually warrants a response?
