Change of heart for some Seattle Chick-fil-A fans

SEATTLE - A Facebook fan page devoted to lobbying fast food restaurant Chick-fil-A to open an eatery in Seattle has suddenly decided it no longer supports the idea.
The change of heart by the administrator of the ‘Seattle Wants Chick-fil-A’ page comes amidst a growing national debate swirling around public statement’s by the company’s top executives against same-sex marriage.
The about section of the fan page now reads:
A page FORMERLY dedicated to giving the Chick-fil-a company a reason to expand their franchise to Seattle. Given Chick-Fil-A's stand on gay marriage, I think Seattle is better off without them.
The page was originally created May 18th 2010.
“Not having Chick-fil-a in Seattle makes my 5 month old son very sad,” read the first status update.
The fan page grew to more than 200 likes over the past two years.
While the administrator of the page has been vocal about the position change not everyone who ‘liked’ the page initially is cheering the flip-flop.
“Since you no longer live up to the title of this sight [sic] I am going to unlike this page,” wrote one fan. “Someone needs to start a page for those of us who still and even more so want a chick-fil-a here!”
There has been no public indication the chain has ever even considered opening in the Seattle area. The nearest Chick-fil-A is in Boise Idaho.
However efforts this week to open restaurants in Boston and Chicago have been met with opposition from political leaders in those cities.
The controversy regarding Chick-fil-A began last week when company President Dan Cathy was quoted in the Baptist Press saying he was “guilty as charged” for supporting “the biblical definition of the family unit.”
Cathy went on to say the Atlanta based company is family owned and family-led.
“And we are married to our first wives,” continued Cathy. “We give God thanks for that.”
Voters will decide the fate of same-sex marriage in Washington State in November when Referendum 74 will appear on the ballot.
Typical Liberals,  liberal  unless you disagree with them.  If you don't like a company for whatever reason, don't shop there, but freedom of speech is a constitutional right.  So if Chik-filet wants to build a place in Seattle, so what, they pay taxes, they are Americans, if you don't like it, too bad, don't eat there.
Seriously, this woman says her 5 month old is upset about no Chik-filet in Seattle? Any Mother wanting to feed a 5 month old that needs crap some parental retraining classes.  She sounds like everything that is wrong in America.
The divisiveness of the politically correct leads to suppression of all our rights...meaning all of the citizenry.  As we observe the national discourse simplified to labeling each other, and dividing all into groups, it brings a coarsening of the discourse.  It has been a developing problem in my lifetime, and as our culture is controlled by this "grouping", we tend to lose the individualism which is truly the essence of our freedoms.
Â
How a thinking, and intelligent population can follow the path of cowardice, bending to the politically correct "thought  police" is mysterious and disgusting.  It seems that any thinking not in step with group think, is demonized, lied about, distorted, and worse. So, look in the mirror, we all have a choice to either look the other way, or we can speak up (respectfully, but with honesty), and allow common sense an honorable place in the public discourse.  Disagreement must not be simplified into name calling. Â
Â
This stupidity about a fast food store being dragged into cultural issues makes no sense. Â You who pretend to support minority voices are the CHICKENS, and for me the opportunistic and dumb linking between rights and fast food restaurants is LAZY.Â
I still want Chick-Fil-A in Seattle! Who cares what they think about gay marraige? They make food. Food has nothing to do with being straight or gay.Â
Looks like Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy got what he wanted, TONS OF FREE PUBLICITY. I never even heard of Chick-fil-A before this.
I am married to my second wife, over 20 years now. I guess that means Chick-fil-a doesn't want my business. Good.
Seattle, city of tolerance and grace, unless you disagree with the prevailing political correctness. I suppose they'll be marching on the churches with torch and pitchfork soon.
LOLÂ More manufactured indignation...Frankly, uhm, I've eaten at Chick-Fil-A, we're not missing out on a thing!
@takncarabizniz Frankly, uhm no one here cares about your opinion about the food at Chick- fil-A because you couldn't be more wrong! The food there is about 100,000,000 times better then that nasty KFC or Popeyes could ever offer,Â
 @BarbWire It's ALL crap food!Â
@BarbWire all fast food is junk food, period. want a chicken sandwich? make your own. it's cheaper and better for you.
@BarbWire I do go out to eat sometimes. But when I do, I order real food from local businesses.Â
@stargunner Why don't you do what you want to do, and let me do what I want to do? I suppose you never go out to eat anywhere right? As long as people eat food in moderation, it isn't going to hurt them. Â

@lin exactly. they would do very well on the east side and elsewhere in WA.
What "5 Month old" has an opinion on much of anything ?
Tempest in a teapot.  The homosexual community continues its incessant drive to stick ifs face in everyone's business.  When they encounter resistance they go nuts. Too bad! It's the right of any person, business owner, etc. to reject the homosexual tirade and they'll just have to eat crow!!!!!
THEY HAVE DELICIOUS SANDWICHES BY THE WAY.
Why would any rational person muddle up fast food with sexual preference? Considering how their business is thriving, that just goes to show the two don't go hand in hand. If and when i venture into a fast food join, sexual orientation of the business executives is the last thing on my mind.
Nothing has changed about Cathy's stance on the definition of marriage over the years... why on earth is this suddenly a controversy? Regardless of his religious viewpoints, Chick-Fil-A has a long-standing culture of treating all employees and customers with integrity and respect. This is a manufactured, politically motivated controversy, and Chick-Fil-A was just a convenient target. While I disagree with Cathy's opinion, he's done nothing more than exercise his right to free speech. I'd love to see a Chick-Fil-A in Seattle.
I want a Chick-fil-A in Seattle!
Why is everyone so outraged by someone saying what they believe. Like it or leave it, it is a free market. If you don't like it don't support it, but don't blame someone for believing something different than you. Do you think the CEOs of other companies all think the same way you do?
@slyderwso ...The simple reason is that...it is the progressive mantra; "If you don't believe in what I believe then you are wrong and deserve to be persecuted!"  Wait...Islam = Progressive? What has the world become?
One day I hope we'll learn to be spiritual without religion, because religion seems to cause more problems than it solves. I also find it funny that Christians talk about Islam as if it's different than their own brand of bigotry.
@Bellevue Scott, that's the beauty of Christianity, you get to choose it or not. Unlike other religions in other lands.
@Bellevue Scott ummm, because it is. islam is miles away from Christianity. where do you think the idea of free will came from?
@Bellevue Scott It's the non-religious people who are causing the problems. They just like to persecute.
Yuk. Who wants more fast food. Stay out of the state! If you really want it, then move back to where you came from.
@Chico there is a simple solution to your problem with fast food, stay away from places you don't want to go toÂ
I don't agree with their stance on gay marriage and I have no interest in their restaurant, but this is supposed to be a free Country and they should be allowed to have a restaurant here just as much as a anyone else. And I should be able to choose whether or not I frequent their restaurant. As far as the fan page goes, I don't think Chick-fil-A is going to be in a big hurry to set up shop in Seattle if this fan page has only been able to muster up 200 likes in two years. Seattle isn't the best market for another fast food chain restaurant.
 @chuckh0308Â
Seattle isnt a good market for anybody, or anything with Christian values. The more immoral, the better.
Why does anyone care what the owners believe in? Isn't anyone allowed to have a difference of opinion anymore?
@skulls98040 You can have any opinion you want in America these days just as long as it supports the gay movement...at least that's the way they look at it. For a group that pushes tolerance they sure seem pretty intolerant don't they? Better jump up and down in joy for them or else...
There's a Chic-fil-a on the WWU Campus... Just drive up there.Â
@HippoLady29 Not any more. It's now a subway.
So where is all the 'tolerance' that people are saying they want? I find that many people who ask for tolerance for their issues have none for the other side of the coin. The CEO is exercising free speech - a right, so far, protected by the Constitution. Why doesn't he have a right to his beliefs?
@Elaine2 I think we should bring back slavery. I also think women don't deserve equal pay for the same job as men. I think blacks are all criminals.
Â
Why doesn't he have a right to his beliefs? Well, he does have that right. But when "freedom" is used to oppress others, it's hard to say that it's about freedom or rights. So about that constitution, and how it starts "all men are created equal" and "we hold these truths to be self evident".... you might want to really think through that part again.
@Bellevue Scott So if someone states their beliefs in a public forum in a free country, without any threats, then you think we should bring back slavery. We still have 'slavery' - human trafficking, slavery to creditors, etc. But I believe you mean slavery as practiced in the US in the South in decades past. Your 'logic' doesn't make sense.Â
@Bellevue Scott
Oppress is a bit strong. I really have no objection to same sex marriage, in fact we attended a gay friendâs wedding only last month, however in the past marriage has always been an exclusive term to mean a union between a woman and a man. Like I say â I donât care but there are those who think that it should remain so, but that hardly compares to slavery, In fact it really is absurd to say so. I donât think the majority of blacks who are against gay marriage would agree either.
Â
The oppression of a business by boycotting just might be considered an example of oppression by anarchy. You really might want to think this through again.
Â
@Elaine2 "Tolerance" of intolerance is a great thing. The CEO has a right to say what he wants. Rational people have the right to avoid his store, and inform others what sort of person they're giving money too.
I wonder why they refer to their wives as "first" wives. If they aren't planning to divorce them, aren't they simply, "wives"?
@Jill I think they are just qualifying it. It makes it clear that they are not merely married to their wives (which is redundant), but that they are married to their first wives (meaning they have never been divorced and remarried).
@Jill They are referring to guys marrying WOMEN. Not that perverted idea of marrying a person of your own sex.
So Liberals are boycotting Chic Fil-a because the owner is opposed to gay marriage. So my questions is when are gays and the supporters of gays going to stop buying gas? Because the owners of OPEC stone to death gays! Just want to know simple question to the hyper fake offense!
@wynooheeman This is a really great point!
No issues, at all, with private citizens voicing their displeasure with Mr. Cathy's position. However, the statements by government hacks stating that they will act to deny Chick-Fil-A the authority to open restaurants is blatantly unconstitutional.
Other than in Seattle, if they came out and said they support gay rights, the number of people who would pledge not to eat there would be much less. This is only an issue because a very small population of people want to make it an issue. People in Seattle just want something to complain about.
The "Biblical definition of the family unit," huh?
Â
So Chick-fil-A supports a family consisting of a man, the woman he raped and then bought from her father, her servants, whatever concubines and other wives he picks up along the way, and all the children he fathers with all these women.
@Mikeftm I see you have not taken the time to properly educate yourself on the topic.
@JeepRex Re-read the book of Genesis, my friend. I didn't even get into all the incest and intermarriage.
@Mikeftm Not to mention the polygamy! This is exactly the reaction I had to Mr. Cathy's comment...which Biblical definition of marriage was you thinking of? Even St. Paul only holds up the "husband of one wife" standard for "bishops" or leaders in the church. Citing the "Biblical standard" for anything is a dangerous game.
@Mikeftm Intermarriage? In the Bible? Say it isn't so!
