Were going to try out the new HIPAA rules today.
Yep, looks like there may have been an injury today. Jeff Clemment came off the field with a trainer, showed what looked to be his left middle finger (in a friendly way) to Hargrove and headed inside.
Rick Griffin came back out after about 20 minutes and it looks like he was briefing the skipper on what I assume was an injury. We will talk to Mike at around 12:30 Az time and hopefully he gives us a clear picture of what is going on. It doesn’t appear to be serious.
Catchers were getting beat up left and right this morning. Joh took a foul tip in what looked to be the throat area but was okay after a couple of minutes and did take batting practice later. Rene Rivera got hit on the top of the head by a Richie Sexson back swing but he was okay. Hopefully 6 catchers in camp will be enough.
Hitters were much more selective in the live arm bp today watching many more pitches then yesterday. Safe to say the guys were a little excited to step in on the first day, looked more like they were working today. Saw Feierabend, Campillo, Lehr and Small throw today with Small being the only one who stood out. Kept the ball down, looked like it had some good break on it. Gave Sexson fits. Still have yet to see a hitter take one out in the live bp.
News and notes…
Team worked on pick off moves and run downs without incident…Willie Bloomquist will fill in for Jose Lopez when games start. Lopez expected to miss 10-14 days of game action as he recovers from the sprained ankle…Vidro took some balls at third yesterday.
According to Hargrove, we could see him at first as well…With Vidro the DH getting Jose Guillen at bats the first couple of weeks could be a challenge. Guillen will not be playing the field and there is only 1 B game scheduled of yet. M’s are looking into asking the NL teams if they can use the DH in their ballparks…
