Seattle Mariners manager Mike Hargrove argues with home plate umpire Rob Drake after Hargrove was ejected from the game on Monday, March 26, 2007.

I finally had an opportunity to talk to the skipper after this morning’s moves were made and learned some interesting things.

I asked if there was a possibility that the team could carry 13 pitchers. Hargrove said yes there is always a possibility but that they most likely would not do that.

Both Bavasi and Hargrove have warned us off assuming that Jamie Burke has made this team despite the face that he and Johjima are the only remaining catchers on the spring roster. I now think that this is just official speak for anything could happen. Because Burke would require a 40 man roster move, it would be risky for the organization to say anything until the move is official.

The Mariners have corrected the press release from earlier today and it turns out that Rene Rivera was actually optioned to AA not AAA. Both Rob Johnson and Jeff Clemment are currently scheduled for AAA but this could change.

Also, it looks like there is a good chance Rey Ordonez will make this club. With Broussard showing that he can play the corners and Willie on the bench it allows the team in Hargrove’s words to “Maybe carry an extra infielder. With that and the fact that there is not a lot of right handed pinch hitting moves in our lineup that we can afford to do that rather than go the other way.”

There is a chance that the right handed bat is Mike Morse, but Ordonez looks like the front runner.

On the pitching front, if Sean White and Brandon Morrow make the big club it would appear that Jake Woods would be the odd man out.

If Rhodes, Morrow, Ordonez and Burke make the club 4 spots will have to be cleared on the 40 man roster. Mark Lowe and I believe Cesar Jimenez can be moved to the 60 day DL.
