Lori Jolosky holds her son, Gabriel, at Evergreen Hospital after the boy was born on Interstate 404 on Thursday, October 4, 2007.
BOTHELL, Wash. -- When Lori Jolosky woke up Thursday morning she had her bags ready for the trip to the maternity ward at Evergreen Hospital. Her baby boy, however, was not going to wait.
Trooper Jeff Merill said Lori awoke with labor contractions about and her water broke as she and her husband got in their car to go to the hospital about 6 a.m.
The couple thought the fastest route would be southbound Interstate 405, but as soon as they got on the freeway they were met by brake lights as far as they could see.
Merill said as they approached the exit for the hospital Lori couldn't wait any longer, so her husband pulled to the side of the road and a baby boy was born in the car just after 7 a.m.
Troopers arrived moments later to find mom, dad, and baby Gabriel happy and healthy inside the car.
"It happened very fast," Lori said from her hospital bed after she and the baby were checked out by doctors. "He just came right out. Just a couple pushes."
Gabriel weighed in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces.
