A man shot by police is loaded into a medic unit on Thursday, October 17, 2007 in North Seattle.
SEATTLE -- Police shot a man Thursday morning after a pursuit that ended in North Seattle.
Seattle Police spokeswoman Rene Witt said the man was shot in the shoulder and was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
Police have cordoned off the area around a 7-Eleven store where the shooting occurred at 13411 Roosevelt Way North.
Witt said the man was wanted for allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint at a motel earlier in the day, and was spotted about 9:30 a.m. in Edmonds. When Edmonds police tried to stop the man, he took off, and officers chased him south down Aurora Avenue.
Police said they cornered him in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store. As they closed in, the fleeing man threw his car in reverse and plowed into a police cruiser.
The man continued driving erratically, crashing into the front of the 7-Eleven store.
Two employees and three customers were inside. Another employee, Steve Richards, saw the crash from across the street and got a first-hand account from his co-worker.
"He was shook up. His jaw was chattering, shaking," Richards said.
Police said the man then tried to run down the officers with his car, prompting Shoreline and Edmonds officers opened fire, hitting the man in the shoulder.
The echo of the gunshots threw neighbors into a frantic state.
"I heard the gunshots -and threw my mom to the floor," said Gloria Casey.
A woman who witnessed the incident while sitting inside her truck was so shaken that medics had to treat her.
No police officers were injured in the incident.
