Jogger hit from behind by car dies at hospital

RENTON, Wash. -- A 37-year-old man was killed here Saturday afternoon when he was hit by a car while jogging.

Police spokeswoman Penny Bartley said the man was jogging south in the 900 block Duvall Avenue Northeast when he was hit by a car about 12:40 p.m.

Medics arrived and transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he later died. His name has not been released.

Bartley said the victim was jogging south along the shoulder of the northbound lanes, and the southbound car drifted across all four lanes before striking him from behind.

After hitting the jogger, the car crashed down an embankment. The driver, a 34-year-old Kent man, was treated for minor injuries at Valley Medical Center.

The collision remains under investigation and it was not known what caused the driver to lose control.
