REDMOND, Wash. -- Some major retailers and attractions are pulling out of the Redmond Town Center shopping mall

The windows are dark at the old Abercrombie and Fitch. The doors don't spin at Express. And the sign is all that's left at Limited.

The three side-by-side clothing stores left Redmond Town Center in the last month.

And it's not just this line of clothing retailers shutting their doors. AMC is closing its Cineplex Odeon movie theatre at the mall, leaving behind a lot of empty space

"The shopping center's been open for 10 years now and most leases are for 10 years," said Christina Henning with Redmond Town Center. "So when we come upon this time in a shopping center's life, a lot of leases start turning."

Redmond Town Center insists that's all this is: growth.

Other stores that just cleared out include a children's hair salon, a rubber stamp store, a jeweler and Nine West shoes.

On the flip side, there's Matt's restaurant, which is expanding.

"I'm not worried at all," said Cathy Bumiller, general manager of Matt's. "Our business is phenomenal. And once we get some new stores in I think we'll see the same thing for them as well."

Redmond Town Center just wrapped up a big research project to help shape the mall's future. They promise unique stores to target their unique audience, which includes a couple thousand on-site workers for Microsoft and AT&T, and hotel guests.

And they're about to announce who's taking over the movie theater's location.

"We have a very exciting new entertainment venue coming into that space. We're going to start the build out in a month or so," said Henning.

Empty store fronts don't look good in a shopping center, but Redmond Town Center points out that while seven stores closed in a month, 110 stayed open.

See's Candy just opened a store at Redmond Town Center, and shopping center management say other new stores will be coming to the mall.
