Loyal dogs save woman from sexual attack

MASON COUNTY, Wash. -- There's no telling how a brazen daylight attack on a woman pregnant with twins would have ended if her dogs hadn't come to the rescue.

"Cindy" was taking a shower at a Hoodsport park on Tuesday when she heard her dogs barking outside. (KOMO News does not name victims of sexual assault.)

"I knew there was something. There had to be something, both dogs barking as they were," she said.

Cindy's dog Stormy was inside the bathroom with her. Zeus stood guard outside.

"This was just a different bark. He was not happy with something," she said of Zeus.

Then it happened.

"One of the men charged in through the front door and grabbed my arms and tried to take my clothes off," she said. "He just grabbed me and threw me to the floor as hard as he could. (I) just fell on the floor and stayed there."

Cindy was helpless and Zeus saw that. The dog jumped in and bit the second man who was standing by the door. When both men tried to run, Zeus chased after them.

The men managed to get away, but without hurting Cindy any more. She still remembers the barks, the faces, the fear.

Cindy is expecting twins this fall, but now considers her dogs family.

"They take care of you, they really do. More than you realize," she said.

Mason County deputies are searching for the suspects while Cindy tries to calm her fears. The two men are described as white men in their mid-20s.

The first man is about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 210 pounds with dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen waring a green baseball cap, a camouflage jacket and a gray T-shirt. No detailed description was available for the second man.
