FBI identifies, clears suspicious men on ferry

SEATTLE -- The FBI announced Monday that they have identified and cleared two men who were thought to be exhibiting unusual behavior on a Washington State ferry last summer.

Agents said then that the two were unusually interested in the size of the boats, how they work, and the docking procedures. They were spotted on different ferry runs on different days over a period of four to six weeks.

The men, who are business consultants from a European Union country, appeared at a U.S. embassy two weeks ago to identify themselves as the men in photographs the FBI released to the media. They said they came forward as they feared arrest if they returned to the United States.

The two said they were in Seattle last July on business and took a ferry ride during the time. The FBI says they were able to verify the men's identities and that they were in Seattle for legitimate reasons.

The FBI is withholding the identity of the men to protect their privacy.
