Brazen thieves smash through nightclub's wall to reach loot
SEATTLE -- Thieves tunneled through a wall to ransack a popular nightclub in a brazen burglary that seems as if it were scripted for the movies.

Instead of picking a lock or jimmying a window, the thieves burrowed their way into the See Sound Lounge in the city's Belltown neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

The owners never thought the thieves would smash through wood, plaster and drywall to get inside. The bar's surveillance cameras captured the thieves coming through a hole from the hallway of an adjoining apartment building.

The owners said the thieves were after some of the most expensive items at the bar.

"Two 50-inch plasma screens. They stole all the DJ equipment," said Anderson. "It makes me irate."

"It's obvious why they didn't go for our liquor," said co-owner Bryce McKamey.

The thieves took $30,000 worth of high-end sound equipment and electronics, but they did leave some clues.

"There are some large footprints here. There was also a glove that was left behind," said Anderson.

The owners hope the glove may yield a fingerprint, but the video may do the trick, especially once the images are enhanced.

The owners say they've tried to think of everything to protect their club. But they were blind-sided by a trio of crooks who came ready to tunnel in.

"It's hard to get inside that type of mindset. When you're not a criminal, what do these people think of. How would they come at us?" McKamey said.

The owners say they'll add steel beams to reinforce the back door. The good news in all this is that the nightclub's insurance should cover the losses.
