DECEPTION PASS, Wash. (AP) - The Coast Guard says it has suspended its active search for a 19-year-old female college student who failed to surface after going scuba diving off Rosario Beach near Deception Pass, Wash.

The Coast Guard said late Monday night it was suspending the search pending further developments after air and surface rescue crews combed about 20 square miles over an eight-hour period.

The Coast Guard says Skagit County Fire and Rescue received a call at 2 p.m. Monday about the diver missing off the northwest tip of Whidbey Island.

The Coast Guard launched an HH-65 rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles, two 33-foot rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station Bellingham and a Coast Guard Auxiliary rescue boat crew.

A rescue helicopter crew from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island also assisted.

In Seattle, Coast Guard spokesman David Foucault says the woman was diving with a partner when she disappeared. He says the partner was not injured. He says the two divers were with a group of divers.

Foucault says the woman's name has not been released.
