KENMORE, Wash. -- King County sheriff's deputies investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy have arrested a 23-year-old woman who was babysitting him the day before.

Medics and police officers were called out Tuesday afternoon to a home in the 7600 block of NE Bothell Way after the babysitter reported that the little boy was unconscious and unresponsive.

The babysitter told medics that the boy, Oscar Rios, had fallen off a table. He was taken to the hospital, where he died the next day.

The 23-year-old babysitter was arrested later on Tuesday and booked into jail for investigation of assault.

The identity of the babysitter has not been released, but King County records show Villanira Garcia-Cabrera was arrested for investigation of child assault. She is being held without bail because she is also an illegal alien.

Before the woman was taken to jail, she reportedly told neighbors the toddler choked on a Cheerio and hit his head.

Neighbors said the babysitter was investigated for child abuse several years ago. At that time charges were reportedly dropped and the woman was allowed to continue taking care of children in her home.

The death remains under investigation, and the medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
